We listen to what you want out of your kitchen and ask questions to learn how you use your kitchen. Do you cook a lot? Do you have a large family? Is it your forever home, or something you want to sell in a couple of years? What is the style of the rest of your home?
We also walk through your kitchen’s main work zones (prep, cook, clean, serve) and how you move between them. We always want to make sure there is adequate prep space and that the flow of the kitchen works. We want to provide ease of access to appliances while leaving enough walking space.
Much of the decision is around the classic work triangle versus the more modern, zone-based layout. We are seeing more people choosing modern zone-based layouts, but this discovery process helps us to get the right kitchen for you.
Traffic flow is such an important factor in design! Make sure there is enough space for traffic to flow, but also for at least 2 people to be in a kitchen working together, and have enough space for that.
Classic work triangle vs more modern zone-based layout? A more modern zone-based layout is what we do more of.
Storage Strategies. What are some of the ways we help them with pots and pans and appliances, as well as small stand mixers, etc? How do we help them decide on pantry size?
Large drawers vs roll-out trays make a big difference in storage. We want to make sure everything has a home. Also, the age of a homeowner and making sure you can access everything. Mixer lifts are a great way to not have to move a heavy mixer, especially if it is an older homeowner.
Color and style are two of the most exciting parts of designing your kitchen. Getting this right comes down to us asking a lot of questions! During this process, we’ll also look at any Pinterest pictures you may have and see the common factors between those inspirational pictures. By having a full showroom with all the samples, we are able to pull out several options and help narrow in on the aesthetic you want.
We’re beginning to see more people choosing open floating shelves over glass cabinets. We can talk through these design trends and help you build a modern, yet timeless, kitchen.
We’ll send someone out to measure the project and create a design off of the elements you chose in the consultation.
